prior page table of contents next page Dubrovnik This is a shot of Dubrovnik from the air. The place is a maze of alleys and courtyards. When I was led to the house I would be staying it took so many turns through small alleys that would open into large courtyards filled with clotheslines, through more alleys, up numerous steps and finally to emerge in the far corner of the Stari Grad right by the fortress wall. This is a sketch of the courtyard outside of the apartment I was staying in. The far wall is the inner side of the fortress wall that surrounds old town Dubrovnik. During the day a steady stream of tourists pass by this courtyard and peer down on the life of local residents.   I saw a cat leap into a small gap in a condemnded building.
